A nice, spacious, dog-friendly cafe. The breakfast was tasty, the highlight being the delicious bacon, and the coffee damn fine.

I have passed Slates on many occassion. But finally paid them a visit (just opened when i arrived in Elterwater after a walk along from Skelwith bridge passing Skelwith force along the way)... Anyhoo.. Slates is an absolute tremendous place if you fancy some quality food & their Beans on Sourdough with a fried duck egg was deliciously superb & fills a hole nicely. Slates is well worth a visit or for me a return visit... Update.. the return visit has happened & a seriously scrumcious pizza it was too
